Review: Stereolab

Stereolab are back with their first new album in 15 years, “Instant Holograms on Metal Film.” It is only their fourth album since band member Mary Hansen died in a tragic accident in 2002. Still, the hosts say the group is as good as ever.

Review: Mclusky

Mclusky are a British post-hardcore band that originally formed in the mid-1990s. Devoted fans of The Jesus Lizard, Mclusky recorded often with Steve Albini. Their new album, “The World Is Still Here and So Are We” is only their fourth full length album- and their first since 2004. The hosts think Mclusky is an undersung influence on new bands like Idles, Viagra Boys and Fontaines D.C.

Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot talk with Local H founder Scott Lucas about his long-running career and the documentary he made himself called “Lifers.”

Dear Listeners,

For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
